Who We Are

In 2018 David Evans got into the catering business under the label Wholehog Baby with an emphasis on BBQ. But when his father’s mental health began to decline from Alzheimer’s his focus switched to looking into any and all treatment options for the condition. The roads of that honest investigation time and again lead to Hericium Erinaceus, commonly known as Lion’s Mane mushrooms. But the more he looked for a supplier the more he found organizations that refused to answer any questions regarding the transparency of their growing, manufacturing, or extraction processes. And because such supplements are not regulated or inspected by the FDA he had no basis upon which to trust these suppliers.

And so began his journey to mushroom farming. He successfully grew Lion’s Mane and learned how to properly extract the beneficial water soluble fats through heat and hydrophobic compounds through alcohol immersion. That is his success story; regardless of the growth or failure of any commercial enterprise he will continue to manufacture this remarkable supplement for himself, his family, and his friends. But now an entire world of new mushroom varieties was available to him to grow and they have quickly become his passion. He has been hard at work growing a variety of gourmet mushrooms for cooking as well as learning how to grow other medicinal mushrooms like Reishi & Turkey Tail.

Evans Family Foods is a sole proprietorship owned and operated by David Evans. David grows mushrooms at his residential home located in Collinsvile Oklahoma, and he along with a few family and friend volunteers process those mushrooms into products and sell them directly to consumers. The majority of sales happen at various local markets and festivals as well as through their e-commerce website https://evansfamilyfoods.com. While we work towards obtaining a commercial grade kitchen The Homemade Food Freedom Act of Oklahoma permits us to sell and ship our products directly to consumers within the great state of Oklahoma.
